I think that the areas that I am the most
proficient in are the shaping of a district culture that is reflective of a
reflective a successful school district. I think that I have very good
communication skills that are an integral part of being proficient in this
domain. During my internship, in
conjunction with the superintendent I was able to spearhead some activities
that correlate to this domain. When we
developed the district improvement plan and establish desired goals for the
school we implemented a monitoring system to ensure that there was credible
evidence that we are addressing needs and moving toward accomplishing that
goal. Additionally, I was able to
institute a program that addressed monitoring of emerging trends in education
and the district’s ability to adapt to these trends. I
think that the area where I feel the greatest need for improvement is domain
8. This deals primarily with the
development and implementation of school budgets. I think with the complexity involved in
developing a school budgets this is an item that everyone wanting to serve as a
superintendent should constantly educate themselves about.
Part Two
I think that ultimately I would like to pursue a
career as a district superintendent. I
do however believe that I will need further exposure and experience in this
field to feel comfortable in undertaking this position. I believe that anyone who wants to become a
superintendent should have experiences in as many fields of education as
possible prior to working as a superintendent. I think that logical progression towards this
goal is first a teaching position, then a campus level administrator then
district leader. It is easier to make
decisions when you understand the viewpoint of other stakeholders and how they feel
the decisions will impact them.
I think that I would like to be in a leadership
position because I enjoy the challenge of inspiring others to achieve and how
the final impact of these decisions affect the success of the district. I think that anyone in a leadership position
hopes to achieve success. I think that
this is measured by how well your students perform and how the community feels
about the job you are doing as a district leader. I think my education and personal needs are
reflected in my desire to achieve success for myself as well as others. I believe students, just like adults, should
strive to be lifelong learners. When we
challenge ourselves, we are improving ourselves. I believe I was able to
accomplish more during my internship because I work in a small rural district
and was able to experience many items related to leadership that others in
larger district may not be exposed to.
